G.R.O.W.
G.R.O.W. (Gardening Restores Our Way-of-life) offers year-round vegetable, herb and flower gardening experiences to individuals with disabilities. This program is operated in partnership with Norfolk’s Therapeutic Recreation Center.
Tanner’s Creek Garden Center
The Center
allows individuals with disabilities to learn basic horticulture skills in a supportive environment in their own greenhouse facility on Zoo grounds. This program is operated in partnership with Eggleston Service.
Thyme in the Garden
Explore the world of plants and insects through an informal series of discoveries in one of our themed gardens. Look for the purple Discovery Cart as you stroll through the grounds. For information, call (757) 441-2374, ext. 278. Program presented Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from April to October (weather and program schedule permitting.)
Botany Basics
Botany Basics is part of the Virginia Zoo School Discovery Program. These sessions deliver informal science education designed to reinforce the Virginia Standards of Learning. Topics include “Let’s Get Growing,” “Flower Power,” and “Powered By the Sun” for grades kindergarten through 6th.

The Zoo’s gardens are the star on this day which features educational activities, food and entertainment.
Norfolk Arbor Day -- (October 2, 2010)
Urban trees are distributed as part of the greening of Norfolk.
Day for People with Disabilities (Be watching for May 2011 date)
The event showcases resources and opportunities available to the disAbled community. Norfolk Public Safety Expo, health Screening, activities and entertainment are also part of this positive event. Hosted by Norfolk's Therapeutic Recreation Center.
