Allyson Whalley: Acting Horticulturist
Allyson is a native of New York. She holds a degree in Horticulture from Farmingdale State University. After practicing horticulture in the tropics, Allyson settled in the Mid-Atlantic and has been with the Virginia Zoo for 8 years. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Zoological Horticulture and the Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course. Allyson loves the dynamic nature of zoological horticulture and the constant opportunities for growth.

Marie Butler: Landscape Coordinator
Marie hails from Greensboro, North Carolina. She is a graduate of North Carolina State University. Her extensive travels have taken her to many parts of the world (her husband was in the Navy) where she has experienced many cultures. Her designs and plant selections for seasonal garden displays have turned the grounds into a “Zoological Garden.” She lectures throughout the year promoting zoo horticulture.
