Kindergarten & Grade One

Let’s Get Growing
VA SOL   Science   K.1, K.6, K.8, 1.1, 1.4, 1.7
NC SCS   Grade 1:  1.01
Plants are more than just green and leafy things.  Studying them can open a whole new world of discoveries.  It all starts with a seed which sprouts new life.  Students will dissect a seed, examine its parts with a hand lens and label the parts of that seed.  They’ll also learn the needs of plants, how a plant grows from seed to fruit, and how plants are used by animals and people.

Grades Two, Three & Four

Flower Power
VA SOL   Science 2.1, 2.7, 2.8, 3.1, 3.8, 4.4, 4.5
NC SCS    Science Grade 3:  1.03, 1.05, 1.06    Grade 4:  4.01
Follow a plant’s cycle of life from seed to flower to fruit.  Your students will be budding botanists as they dissect and examine the parts of a flower under a hand lens.   They’ll learn how plants can manufacture their own food through photosynthesis, what happens during pollination, and the importance of plants to animals and humans.

Grades Five & Six

Powered By the Sun
VA SOL   Science 5.5, 6.2e
NC SCS    Science Grade 6:  4.03, 4.04, 7.03, 7.06
In this program we’ll dig deeper into the world of plants to discover how a plant uses its leaves to provide food for itself through photosynthesis, how that food is transferred throughout the plant, how plants have adapted to different climates, and how man and animals rely on plants to survive.
