Library Programs“Zoo to You” Traveling Library Programs Each year, the Zoo Education Department designs a program that includes live animal presentations for children ages 5 and older at local public libraries in conjunction with their summer reading programs. The programs are based on a theme selected annually by the Virginia State Library. The 2011 program is entitled “Amazing Tails at Your Library”, following directly from the reading theme “Amazing Tales at Your Library”. Virginia Beach libraries and others using a different theme this year: we are prepared to present programs at your locations as well. Please contact us as indicated below for details. As always, we will direct the attendees to appropriate reading lists or specific books in consultation with local library staff. The traveling library program “Amazing Tails at Your Library” will feature a series of live animal presentations with a variety of mammals, birds and reptiles, including information about the groups of similar animals they belong to. The information on this page is for library staff who are planning programs. Parents interested in having their children attend a Zoo library program should consult their local libraries for schedules. Program Days: Monday-Friday Program Times: Begin as early as 10:00 a.m. Registration (for media specialists): Pre-register for a library program through the Zoo’s Education Department by calling (757) 441-2374, ext. 229 to receive registration forms by mail or fax. To receive forms by email, send an email to judy.totten@norfolk.gov. Cost of program at your facility: Travel fee, plus $125.00 per program. Due to temperature restrictions of our animals, all programs must be held indoors.
