- 12th Grade Discovery Programs Am I in the Right Class? SOLs reinforced: LS.5, LS 10, BIO 7
Why and how do scientists classify living things? Students will explore this question as they meet an animal from each class (insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals). Key characteristics that place each example in each class will be highlighted, and specific adaptations that allow each animal to survive in its natural habitat will be covered as well. African Observer SOLs reinforced: LS.8, LS.9, BIO.1, BIO.9 (program on Zoo grounds only) Let your students become researchers discovering the wonders of African wildlife. Let them learn how to do an observation by spending time in our classroom and then venturing out into our African exhibit. Your class will discover how animal populations interact in the wild or in a captive situation. Notes: Dress for the weather - we will be touring Africa rain or shine! Also, students will need to concentrate during short periods of directed observation in order to get the most out of the program.
Other, specialized programs for high school and middle school and middle school students are also available. Please contact the education department for more information.
