Preschool Hatchling Programs are offered for children ages 3 to 5 years. We are able to teach up to three Hatchling presentations per day for schools with more than one class; however, we are only able to offer one topic per day. Hatchling Programs are approximately 30 minutes in length.

Eyes, Ears, and Noses
Explore the eyes, ears and noses of different animals.  Use your ears to play a listening game.  Find out how animals' senses help them survive in the wild.  (This program is recommended for three-and four-year-olds)

Animals on the Move
Slithering, crawling, hopping, climbing and flying - animals have many ways of moving around.  Join us as we learn how animals get from one place to another.  (This program recommended for three- and four-year-olds)

Where Do They Live?
Where do animals live? Dress up and share an adventure with us as we explore different animal homes. Children will discover what it takes to live in the rainforest and desert. (This program recommended for four- and five-year-olds)

Several animal visitors with a variety of feeding habits can help your students learn why different animals need different diets. They will also increase understanding of the different sources of human foods, and help everyone see that every wild animal has an important job in nature.

Program Days: Monday - Friday

Program Times: Begin at 10:00 A.M.. on Zoo grounds (Also 10:00 A.M.for outreach programs) and can be scheduled throughout the day.

Registration: You must pre-register for education programs through the Education Department. Please fill out a registration form and mail or fax it to us. You may also register online here. You must receive a confirmation letter from us before you are guaranteed a program. Please call us at 757-441-2374 ext. 229 if you have any questions or if you do not receive a confirmation letter.

Cost of Program on Zoo Grounds: $75.00 for first program (25 children maximum). Each additional program $60.00 (25 children per program), includes admission into the zoo.

Cost of Program at Your Facility: Travel fee (based on roundtrip mileage from the Zoo) plus $75.00 for first program (25 children maximum). Each additional program $60.00 (25 children per program).
