Girl Scout Programs at the Zoo

Bring your troop out to your Virginia Zoo for a morning, afternoon or even the whole night and earn badges at the same time! We are happy to offer Girl Scout Snoozes and Girl Scout Badge in a Day programs. Click on each program below for more information.

Scout Snoozes /Scout Badge in a Day

SCOUT SNOOZE
Spend an evening of adventure behind the scenes at the Virginia Zoo. Scouts can earn a badge while getting close to nature. Activities include a live animal presentation, a tour of the zoo, a visit with the animals behind-the-scenes, wildlife games, and making a craft. A light breakfast is provided in the morning. Snoozes are held indoors in our Education Center. Snooze are available November-June and held on available Fridays and Saturdays.

    Brownies:  Watching Wildlife Try-It

     Juniors:     World Neighbors, African Style

Reservations:
Snoozes are scheduled on a first-come, first served basis and require payment in full before the snooze can be booked. Dates cannot be held without payment in full. Scout Snoozes may be booked online, in person at the Zoo during the hours of 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM Monday-Friday, or by mail or fax. We can not accept registrations over the phone.


Scout Snoozes are booked by girl scout level. Dates which are not booked or identified as a particular level troop, may be booked by any level girl scout troop or organization (schools, boy scout troops, etc).
Cost*:
$25.00/Scout; $12.50/Adult
30 maximum participants
One adult is admitted free with every 12 paid scouts.


*If you are the first troop to book a date:
A minimum payment of $300.00 must be made to secure the date. If another troop books the same date as your troop and together you meet the minimum, you will be refunded accordingly (will only be charged $25.00/scout and $12.50/adult.)

6:00 - 6:30 p.m. Arrive and unpack
6:30 - 11:00 p.m. Intro to staff, rules, agenda
Live animal presentation
Flashlight tour of zoo
Snack
Education games, activities, and crafts
11:00 p.m. Lights out, bedtime
7:00 - 10:00 a.m. Wake up, Breakfast
Cut Diets, behind-the-scenes tour
Evaluations
10:00 a.m. Depart

Please bring appropriate clothing for the weather, nutritional snacks and drinks, sleeping bag, and flashlight. Participants must have dinner prior to the start of the program. Dinner and Snacks are not provided, however, your breakfast is provided in the morning. Badges are provided for each scout completing the program.

Badge in a Day
Spend a morning or afternoon of adventure behind the scenes at the Virginia Zoo. Scouts work towards earning a badge or credits while getting close to nature. Activities include a live animal presentation, wildlife games, and educational activities. Badge in a Day programs are available once a month on Saturday. $12.00 per scout; $8.00 per adult

**If you plan to add extra people, please contact us at least seven business days before your program. We will accommodate you depending on space availability. Groups will be combined until all spaces are filled. Scouts are booked by level. Reservations are not made until full payment is received. Availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Should you decided to cancel, you will receive 80% of your program fee, with a seven business day notification. Refunds will not be given later than that date.**
