Mosaic
Steel Orchestra
| Mosaic
Steel Orchestra is an ensemble of energetic gifted
youth and young adults from the cities of Chesapeake,
Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia
Beach, VA. Their inaugural performances during the month
of July 2007 generated immense interest resulting in local
television appearances.
The
term mosaic is the underlying concept of the ensemble
as the group is represented by a variety ages, races,
populations and musical styles. The ensemble's repertoire
truly demonstrates the versatility of the steel drum art
form. Mosaic Steel Orchestra's set list includes the Soca
and Calypso styles generally associated with the instrument,
but also comprises works by Beethoven, Stevie Wonder,
The Eagles, Earth Wind and Fire, and many more.
Immediately
following their debut performance in July 2007, Mosaic
Steel Orchestra's first summer season was completely booked
with engagements throughout the region including performances
at the Virginia Beach Town Center and the Surry County
African American Family Reunion. While only in its first
year, the group has been invited to Steel Band festivals
and workshops in Brentwood, MD and James Madison University
in Harrisonburg, VA. As the word spreads about this captivating
ensemble you can expect many more regional, national and
international performances.

Calendar
Girls of Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay

|
The
“Calendar Girls of Westminister-Canterbury on
Chesapeake Bay,” are six ladies, ages 73 to
84 years of age – and are all residents of Westminister-Canterbury
on Chesapeake Bay, a retirement community in Virginia
Beach. Inspired by the film, “Calendar Girls,” starring
Helen Mirren, these six fun, funny and crazy ladies
came up with the idea to create a photo calendar to
raise funds for the Westminister-Canterbury
Foundation which provides the means to assist
senior adults who couldn't otherwise afford to live
at Westminister-Canterbury.
The
Girls -- and their calendars -- will be at Rock 'n Roar!
