Come see the animals in our garden!
Most visitors come to the Virginia Zoo with animals on their minds, but plants are the first thing they see. Our guests are greeted by one WOW of a front entry planting.
Horticulture sets the stage: in the Virginia Barnyard where heirloom plants mingle with their modern counterparts, and in the natural looking animal exhibits such as the African Okavango Delta exhibit. The Zoo's Organic Rose Garden, Color Gardens , Herb Garden, Butterfly Gardens , African Village Garden, Tropical Garden, Ornamental Grass Gardens and Shade Garden offer guests the opportunity to experience nature up close and to collect ideas to recreate in their own gardening space.
