Come see the animals in our garden!

Most visitors come to the Virginia Zoo with animals on their minds, but plants are the first thing they see. Our guests are greeted by one WOW of a front entry planting.

Virginia Zoological ParkHorticulture sets the stage: in the Virginia Barnyard where heirloom plants mingle with their modern counterparts, and in the natural looking animal exhibits such as the African Okavango Delta exhibit. The Zoo's Organic Rose Garden, Color Gardens , Herb Garden, Butterfly Gardens , African Village Garden, Tropical Garden, Ornamental Grass Gardens and Shade Garden offer guests the opportunity to experience nature up close and to collect ideas to recreate in their own gardening space.

Special gardening programs offer people of all ages and abilities opportunities to learn new skills to benefit both the Zoo animals and the community.

Welcome to the wild world of Virginia Zoo horticulture!
