G.R.O.W.
Program
Gardening
Restores Our
Way-of-life
| This
program was developed as a partnership between Norfolk’s
Therapeutic Recreation Center and Virginia Zoological Park’s
Horticulture Department. Individuals with physical, mental,
social or emotional impairments participate in this year-round
gardening program. Participants grow their own vegetables, flowers
and herbs in the Zoo’s greenhouse. The plants are later
planted into the participants own individual gardens. The program
is led by Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists and the
Zoo’s horticulture staff. The garden is located behind
the Color Garden and is a place
where people and plants grow.
