Zoo Celebrates Spring with Enrichment Extravaganza Day and
Tidewater Orchid Society Orchid Display

NORFOLK, VA – The Virginia Zoo is celebrating spring with Enrichment Extravaganza Day on Saturday, March 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Bring the kids for a day of education, fun and adventure.

Learn about the beasts, birds and bugs that lay eggs. Discover how zookeepers use enrichment programs to keep animals fit, healthy and happy. Watch live demonstrations with keepers; try out activities with Zoo educators and even play like a lion with toys that will eventually be given to the Zoo animals. Activities include a scavenger hunt, mascots and more. Lion cubs Granby and Neka will be part of the fun as one of the keeper presentations is scheduled for their exhibit. Be sure to join us since kids, like lion cubs, grow up quickly.

Also on March 15 and on the 16th , Tidewater Orchid Society will be hosting its Spring Orchid Display in the Zoo's Administration Building Classroom. The display will feature hundreds of unique orchids from all over the world, and society members will be on hand to answer questions about growing orchids. This event takes place on both days from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The programs are free with Zoo admission ($7/adults; $5 children 2-11; $6 seniors (62 and older); members/free). For information, call (757) 441-2374, ext. 223.

As an accredited Association of Zoos and Aquariums ( AZA ) facility, the Virginia Zoo exhibits over 350 animals, beautifully manicured grounds and offers a fun-filled day for all. For more than a century, the Virginia Zoo has demonstrated a commitment to wildlife, conservation and education. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and located at 3500 Granby Street in Norfolk .
