THE SEARCH FOR ANIMALS IS OVER AT THE VIRGINIA ZOO!
NORFOLK , Va. – New directional signs on the Virginia Zoo grounds help assure that zoo visitors won't miss any of the animal exhibits or any of the other zoo features.
Big, bold and PURPLE the new wayfinding system is curiously educational, fancifully fun and strikingly artistic. Over 200 animal silhouettes have been fastened to large upright directional arrows placed along the paths throughout the zoo. They are quickly becoming an exhibit of their own.
By using drawings to represent the zoo animals, and areas of interest, the signs act as navigational aids that cross language barriers and all reading levels.
"We put to use, on a grand and colorful scale, all of the elements we learned in zoo workshops focusing on zoo directional signage and wayfinding,” said Zoo director Greg Bockheim. "Not only does it enhance the whole zoo experience, it adds to an already patron-friendly environment where kids, adults and families can enjoy the exhibits and animals."
An accredited American Zoo and Aquarium Association ( AZA ) facility, the Virginia Zoo exhibits over 350 animals, beautifully manicured grounds and offers a fun-filled day for all. For more than a century, the Zoo has demonstrated a commitment to wildlife, conservation and education. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and we are located at 3500 Granby Street in Norfolk . Admission prices are $7.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors (age 62 and over), and $5.00 for children ages 2-11. Visit www.virginiazoo.org or call (757) 441-2374 for more information.
