Yellow Bus Annual Spring Migration

Hits a Peak at the Zoo Today

Who:   Herds of domestic yellow school buses ( Hampton Roads species ) are migrating to the Virginia Zoo, this morning. The gorgeous spring weather is luring students from the classroom as over 50 busloads of students and parents are expected from schools across Hampton Roads. The quiet park-like atmosphere of early mornings at the Zoo will quickly be transformed by children's giggles and shrieks, the roar of buses and brakes, the colorful T-shirts and the piercing call of the Zoo's peacocks who have anointed themselves as the students' official greeters and often stand in the Plaza displaying the full glory of their fan-like tails. Zoo staff are preparing for this massive migration by consuming large quantities of caffeine!

When:   This morning, Friday, April 18, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Where:   The Virginia Zoo at 3500 Granby Street , Norfolk

Why:   The purpose of the Virginia Zoo is to provide opportunities for recreation, conservation and education. Our dynamic education program includes customized SOL compliant lessons for students conducted by our professional educators, reading programs to encourage literacy, summer camps and the opportunity to see and appreciate the natural wonders of our world by an up close visit with exotic animals such as lions, tigers and giraffe.
