Development
Department Mission Statement:
To foster community
involvement with the Virginia Zoo through charitable giving
to and membership in the Virginia Zoological Society; to properly
acknowledge and recognize our contributors; and to ensure that
the Zoo's growth and revitalization are realized with the financial
support of the private sector.
The
department of Development at the Virginia Zoo oversees the Zoo
membership program, currently representing 5,800 households;
grant writing; donor identification, cultivation and stewardship;
all private sector fundraising; member and donor relations;
and active involvement in strategic and master planning.
- Specifically,
the Virginia Zoo Development Team aims to:
Revitalize
the Zoo's membership program so that members are properly cultivated
as the foundation
of our fundraising pyramid;
Work
closely and collaboratively with all Zoo departments to ensure
that redundant
efforts
are eliminated and joint efforts are maximized;
Ensure
that the Zoo's ambitious master plan proceeds steadily and successfully
with an aggressive,
organized, and efficient capital campaign effort;
Expand
the Zoo's reach and impact into the local and regional community
by
increasing
membership recruitment and retention, organizing prospect identification
and
cultivation, fostering corporate relationships and encouraging
board participation
in
all development endeavors; and,
Provide
vision and enthusiasm to the VZS board of directors.
