Girl Scout Badge Nights
Earn a fun patch as you join your own private Zoo guide in an after-hours event just for Girl Scouts! Evening includes hands-on activities, up close encounters with animals, and visits to the exhibits.
Friday, Feb. 21, 6 – 9 p.m. – "My Own Backyard" for Daisies and Brownies
Friday, March 21, 6 – 9 p.m. – "Rainforest Rendezvous" for all Girl Scouts
Reservations are required by calling 757-441-2374 x229. $15 per participant. (These same patches are also available as a Snooze program, scheduled on a Friday or Saturday night of your choice.)
Saturday, March 15, 2014, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Scurry or slither on over to the Zoo's Exhibit Building to learn all about the coolest cold-blooded creatures! Activity stations will explore the amazing lives of reptiles, and include up-close animal encounters, hands-on displays, children’s crafts and conservation information. Activities are included with regular Zoo admission.
Love is in the Air
Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 3 p.m. Join the Zoo for a special adults-only program about
animal attractions and the wild ways of animal courtship. Cost per pair of tickets is $45 for Zoo Members and $55 for Non-members. CLICK HERE for more information or to make a reservation.
Saturday, April 5, 2014, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Celebrate Groundhog Day at the Zoo by debunking some popular animal myths. Activities are included with regular Zoo admission.
Wednesdays: April 9, April 23, May 7, May 21, 9 – 10 a.m. Gather the little ones and load up the stroller for an exciting Stroller Safari at the Zoo! Children and an adult caregiver have the Zoo to themselves for an hour, and their active adventure includes preschool activities, stories, art and the chance to meet animal ambassadors up close! Choose one class, or join us for all four sessions as we learn about animal coverings. Each day is different! After class, stick around and explore the Zoo on your own. Activities designed for ages 2-4. Pre-registration required by calling 441-2374 x229.
Members: Per class, $10 for an adult/child pair and $5 each for up to 2 additional children.
Non-members: Per class, $15 for an adult/child pair and $7 each for up to 2 additional children.
Spring Break Camp 2014
April 14-18, 2014. Come explore the wild and the wonderful at the Virginia Zoo's Spring Break Camp. For kids who love to learn about animals, these camps include up-close animal encounters, crafts, games and visits to the Zoo's exhibits. Join us for a day or spend the whole week - every day is a new adventure!
Ages: 6-8 and 9-12
Times: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each day
Per day – Members: $70 per camper; Non-members: $80 per camper.
For all 5 days – Members: $250; Non-members: $300.

Party for the Planet
April 19, 2014, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Join us for a celebration of the Earth and the animals we share it with. Learn about conservation steps you can take to protect natural habitats locally and around the world; see how our zookeepers use enrichment to encourage natural behaviors that will keep Zoo animals healthy and happy; and play like a monkey with the kinds of toys we give animals from meerkats to elephants. Activities are included with regular Zoo admission.
The Arts are Wild
May 3, 2014, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Celebrate literacy and the performing arts with Young Audiences of Virginia at the Zoo! Activities are included with regular Zoo admission.
World Giraffe Day
Saturday, June 21, 2014, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Activities are included with regular Zoo admission.
Saturday, July 5, 2014. Animals at the Zoo will beat the heat with red, white and blue popsicles, play with star-spangled piñatas and maybe even roll around a watermelon! Find out why the Zoo's enrichment program is an important part of daily animal care as you watch animals enjoy some extra-special holiday toys and treats. Activities are included with regular Zoo admission.
International Red Panda Day
Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Activities are included with regular Zoo admission.
Elephant Appreciation Day
Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Activities are included with regular Zoo admission.

Orangutan Awareness Day
Swing by the orangutan exhibit on Mother's Day to learn about how you can protect these fascinating, yet critically endangered great apes. Informational displays will provide you with resources to help orangutans, their habitat and the wildlife that share their island home. Activities are included with regular Zoo admission. Zoo-Fari Golf Tournament
A charity golf tournament presented by the
Norfolk Sunrise Rotary Club at Greenbrier Country Club, 1301 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake, VA. All proceeds from the event benefit the Virginia Zoo. Entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, practice range, golf cart, box lunch, beverages, awards reception/dinner and much more! Watch this space for 2014 date.
Endangered Species Day
Your actions make a difference for endangered species, and this event will highlight ways to help animals locally and around the world. Find out how the Zoo helps endangered birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals. Activity stations will feature hands-on activities and lots of easy ideas for how you can help! Zoo Parent Event
Our annual event to thank those who've adopted an animal during the year. Meet your animal's zookeeper, and get up-close and personal with some of our animal ambassadors, too. If you’ve not adopted your favorite animal yet, there’s still time! This event is invitation only, so watch your mail for an invitation postcard. Watch this space for 2014 date.
Teddy Bear Clinic The Virginia Zoo partners with doctors and nurses from Pediatric Specialists, a Children’s Medical Group Practice of CHKD, to host a special Teddy Bear Clinic. Children bring their teddy bears and other stuffed friends to the Zoo for a "check-up" and stitches. Children learn about doctor visits and healthcare in a comfortable and non-threatening environment. Teddy Bear Clinic activities are included with regular Zoo admission. Zoo Grooves Concerts
Thanks to the nearly 1,200 people who came out to see the Deloreans Saturday, Aug. 24! Watch this space for summer 2014 concert dates. Concerts at the Zoo are a perfect evening activity for families, providing a safe environment for enjoying music, and some of your favorite summer foods and beverages. Artist and admissions prices to be announced. No rain dates, no passes or coupons.

Military Appreciation Day
A USO-sponsored event in appreciation of military service members hosted at the Virginia Zoo. Military members and their families are honored with free admission! This event is open to the public and free with proper ID for active duty, retired military, DOD civilians, reserve/guard members and their dependents. The day will include children's games, entertainment, give-aways and more. Stay tuned for Fall 2014 date!
